Cookie policy

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files saved on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work, to remember your preferences, and to help the people who run the site understand how it is being used. Some sites also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which store small amounts of information in your browser in the same way.

A cookie is only readable by the website that set it (or a service acting on its behalf), and you can delete cookies at any time from your browser.

This page explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on www.crosskey.fi and www.crosskey.se, what they do, and how you can control them. For information on how we handle personal data more broadly, please see our Privacy Statement.

How consent works here

When you first arrive, you will see a consent banner powered by Cookiebot. It tells you which kinds of cookies we would like to use and lets you accept or reject them. Your choice is remembered on every page, and you can change it any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.

We have Google Consent Mode v2 turned on across the site, so if any Google service is loaded on a page (for example, an embedded YouTube video) it is told whether you have given consent for analytics and advertising storage, and behaves accordingly.

Until you give consent, our analytics tools either do not run at all, or run in a strictly cookieless, anonymous mode that cannot identify you. We do not use targeting, advertising or social-media tracking cookies on this website.

The cookies and storage we use

We group the items on this site into four categories, in line with the Cookiebot consent banner you see on your first visit:

  • Necessary — needed for the website to work, such as remembering your cookie choices and keeping the site secure.
  • Preferences — remember choices you have made (for example, language) to give you a better experience.
  • Statistics — help us see, anonymously, how the site is used so we can keep improving it. Our statistics tools (Matomo Cloud, Plausible and PostHog) are configured to be cookieless or to use only anonymous browser storage. They only load after you accept "Statistics" in the banner.
  • Marketing — we do not use marketing, advertising, retargeting or social-media tracking cookies on this website.

For the current, exact list of cookies and similar storage on the site — with the provider, purpose, type and how long each one lasts — please see the live cookie declaration at the end of the page. It is generated automatically by Cookiebot and refreshed every month, so it is always up to date.

How long cookies stick around

Cookies come in two flavours: session cookies, which disappear as soon as you close your browser, and persistent cookies, which stay on your device until they expire or you delete them. The exact lifetime of each cookie is shown in the live declaration above; most of the items we use are session-based or expire within 12 months.

Cookies set by other organisations

Some pages on our website include content from other organisations — for example, an embedded video or a link to a social network. If you interact with that content, the other organisation may set its own cookies under its own rules. We cannot read those cookies, and they cannot read ours.

Where Google services are involved, Google Consent Mode v2 passes your choices on. If you would like to know exactly what the other organisations do with cookies, their own cookie and privacy notices are the best place to look.

Staying in control

You decide which cookies are used. The simplest way is the cookie banner you see on your first visit — and you can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. You can also turn on "Do Not Track" in your browser; our analytics tools are set up to respect it. And, of course, your browser itself can block or delete cookies, or browse in a private/incognito mode that limits how cookies are stored. The help pages for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all explain how.

If you block the strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website may stop working as expected.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if the tools we use, the website, or the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you when this version was published.
